YEAR ROUND INTEREST: Our pyramidal Compacta Japanese Holly matures to 3-6' H x 3-6' W, which provides year-round interest. This sun-loving ornamental shrub will surely make for an interesting new addition to any garden with a dark green dense globular form and finely textured small, oval-shaped foliage. MULTI-USE: Pyramidal Compacta Holly is an evergreen shrub that can be used in various spaces. These plants can be used in foundational plantings, in containers or planters, or around entryways pruned as topiary plantings. Small, round berries are produced by this holly tree and birds and other wildlife are attracted to the berries and dense foliage. PRUNING: The pyramidal Holly grows naturally in a pyramidal form with no pruning necessary to maintain its shape. Although the pruning is not required a denser form is achieved if pruning is done 2-3 times per year. Heavy pruning is best reserved for late winter or early spring. USDA ZONES: Our Japanese Holly is hardy in USDA Zones 6a-9b. For a healthy holly you are going to want to place where it can receive full sunlight, but it will also do well in a location where it receives partial shade at certain times of the day. For the first few months be sure to water several times a week and once it takes root you can begin to water less. POTTED PLANT: These Holly shrubs ship as a 2.4 gallon potted plant with soil from the Alabama Gulf Coast. Not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival. This plant is unavailable to ship to Hawaii and Alaska. Our Pyramidal Japanese Holly Compacta is an evergreen shrub whose dense, globular form and finely textured evergreen foliage makes a popular choice for gardeners across the country. The average mature size of the Japanese Holly Shrub is 3 to 5 feet in height and diameter. Hardy in USDA Zones 6a - 9b this holly is not the most tolerant plant available, but do not let that scare you just yet! Placing this shrub in a container is one of the numerous option you will have so that when the weather dips below freezing it can simply be moved inside. For those of you in the ideal grow zones feel free to use your holly tree as specimens or in mass across your entire landscape. This plant will retain its pyramidal shape so pruning isn't as much of an issue as it may be for similar plants. In order to promote the more dense foliage possible we do recommend pruning 2 to 3 times a year, but this is optional. When you receive your holly be sure to remove it and water immediately. Plant in full sun to partial shade and water regularly until established.
