After selecting your area, dig a hole thats approximately one and a half times the width of your shrubs root ball. Place the shrub before back filling the soil and watering to settle its roots. Mulching after planting is beneficial to preserve your Hollys moisture.2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season, about once per week or whenever your evergreens surrounding soil is dry. To check for soil dryness, simply use your finger to check the dirt about 2 to 3 inches down. If the soil is dry here, its time to water. Once your plant is established, watering frequency may be reduced, depending on your soils needs.3. Fertilizing: Feed your Holly in early spring and again in early fall with an all-purpose fertilizer or an evergreen-specific formula.4.
