Buffalo grass is a great lawn solution for those who want to spend less time mowing and watering their lawns. Buffalo Grass Seed grows 6 in. tall and forms a thick, rugged, blue-green mat that rarely needs mowing. A hardy native of the dry prairie states, Buffalo Grass resists heat and drought as well as insects and most lawn diseases. It will not survive in areas that receive more than 25 inches of rain annually. This sun-loving, warm season grass also does not tolerate shade. For best results, sow Buffalo Grass Seed in the spring and use our zone finder information and recommendations to ensure successful gardening. Buffalo grass can take about 3 to 4 weeks to germinate. To help your buffalo grass grow, keep the soil lightly moist, watering briefly and often. Once you start seeing small green shoots, continue watering this way for another two weeks. After that, you can begin watering deeply and infrequently to help the root system grow. 1/2 lb. of seed covers 250 sq. ft. Zones 3-9.*The length that buffalo grass can grow to:Commonly only grow 8 to 10 inches high, warm-season perennial grass. Individual leaf blades may reach 10 to 12 inches in length, but they fall over and give the turf a short appearance.*Buffalo grass grow maintenance:Where moderate- to high-quality turf is desired, mow once per week at a height of 2 to 3 inches. For low-maintenance areas, mow at 3 to 4 inches every three to four weeks. Buffalo grass may also be un-mowed except for an annual spring mowing at 3 to 4 inches to remove old growth.Very low maintenance: Buffalo grass can survive with very little fertilizer, water, and mowing. It is drought-resistant. If not irrigated, buffalograss will turn brown during the summer; it will recover well once irrigation has resumed.
