Jobless claims rise slightly to 219,000 in latest week — but the labor market is still tight
The numbers: Initial jobless claims rose by 3,000 to 219,000 in the week ended May 25, the Labor Department said Thursday. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had estimated new claims would rise to 218,000. Last week claims fell a revised 7,000 to 216,000. That compared with the initial estimate of a fall of 8,000 to 215,000.
