Hasan Minhaj joked about how him not becoming The Daily Show's new host paved the way for Jon Stewart's return and the series' current success.

Hasan Minhaj on Thursday at the "Netflix Is a Joke" comedy festival jested about the controversy that saw him dropped from consideration as a possible Trevor Noah successor as host of Comedy Central's "Daily Show," reports Variety.

Hasan Minhaj said he got "f--ed out of" hosting "The Daily Show" and took a jab at Jon Stewart: "Have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?"

Jon Stewart is making a return to this year’s Democratic and Republican national conventions, with “The Daily Show” announcing it’ll broadcast from both gatherings. The Comedy Central show will provide “on-the-ground coverage” from the conventions this summer,

The convention is scheduled for August 19-22 at the United Center and is expected to host over 5,000 delegates from U.S. states and territories, alongside nearly 50,000 visitors, according to NBC Chicago. It will be the first time the Midwest has hosted the DNC in nearly 30 years.

At the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival in Los Angeles on Thursday (2 May), Minhaj hosted a showcase for comedians including his former Daily Show colleague Ronny Chieng, who joked, “I’m surprised that Hasan’s able to do this show. I guess ‘cancelling’ is not what it used to be.”
