NASA Set to Launch Solar Sail for Sunlight-Propelled Space Travel
The Advanced Composite Solar Sail System (ACS3) is scheduled for launch on Tuesday, April 23 on board Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket from New Zealand. The mission will use composite booms in Earth orbit for the first time, testing their ability to deploy the sail in orbit.

But scientists at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia have spent five years making the technology a reality and plan to launch a test mission as soon as April 23. If successful, the sail technology could reduce the cost of space missions and make monitoring the sun much easier for scientists.
