The family of a Glasgow-based asylum seeker and torture victim say they fear for his health and future after he was unexpectedly detained under the Rwanda scheme. Last month, the UK government began detaining asylum seekers who they claim are eligible to be deported to Rwanda, a key plank of their illegal migration policy.

Failed asylum seekers could be sent to Rwanda following an expansion of deportation plans from the Home Office. Under the original plan, only those who arrived in the UK on or after 1 January 2022 could be deemed eligible for deportation.
