Families from across the nation are gathering in Washington D.C. this week to honor those across the country who have been killed in the line of duty. The families are being joined by law enforcement to mark the start of National Police Week.

President Joe Biden has declared Wednesday, May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day, and May 12 - 18, National Police Week. All flags will fly at half-staff Wednesday in memory of the 136 law enforcement officers who died nationwide in the line of duty in 2023.

A Law Enforcement Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held on May 15 in honor of fallen Law Enforcement officers.

The ceremony is being hosted by the U.S. Customs and Border Protections Office of Field Operations at the International Flag Plaza near Blue Water Bridge. Other participating law enforcement offices include the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, Port Huron Police Department, Michigan State Police and U.S. Border Patrol Detroit Sector.

This week is National Police Week, with Wednesday being Peace Officers Memorial Day. Tuesday, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony. Starts at 11:00 a.
