Palestinian militant group Hamas said Friday that a "commander" was killed in an Israeli strike on an eastern district of Lebanon near the Syrian border.

The Israeli military on Friday confirmed carrying out an airstrike in eastern Lebanon’s Majdal Anjar, close to the border with Syria, killing a top al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya operative who worked alongside Hamas.

In March, Hamas reported that one of its members was killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, which state media said killed three people. A strike in January, attributed to Israel by a U.S. defense official, killed Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri and six other militants in Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut.

The attacks were carried out by fighter jets and killed 15 Hamas operatives, 10 of whom were involved in the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel.
