Interstate 95 in Norwalk, Connecticut is closed in both directions after a fuel truck crashed and burst into flames.

The tanker truck filled with gasoline burst into flames in a three-vehicle crash Thursday on I-95 in southwest Connecticut, closing the East Coast’s main north-south highway and causing major traffic jams.

Both sides of Interstate 95 in Norwalk have been closed for hours after a tractor-trailer, a fuel truck and another vehicle collided early Thursday morning and some of them caught fire. The governor said the highway could be closed for “a significant amount of time” and he is asking people to avoid driving in the area.

A fiery crash closed I-95 in both directions in Norwalk, Connecticut on Thursday. The Connecticut State Police Department said that southbound and northbound lanes in the area of Exit 15 will be closed for “an extended period of time” because of the crash.
