Inter Miami CF head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino shut down the possibility of signing players like Benfica forward Ángel Di María and Boca Juniors goalkeeper Sergio Romero due to Major League Soccer's strict roster rules.

Angel Di Maria, the World Cup-winning Argentina teammate of Lionel Messi, is in the process of joining his compatriot at Inter Miami. The winger is currently playing for Portuguese side Benfica. His contract with Benfica expires at the end of the 2023/24 season,

On Thursday, multiple Argentinian outlets reported that Inter Miami had contacted Di María’s camp to gauge his interest in joining Messi in South Florida. It seems, in theory, to be a natural landing spot, allowing him to join the cast of “Messi and Friends” – Lionel Messi (with whom Di María is close), Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.

Di Maria's arrival would count as the second time he could share the dressing room at club level after they were together at Paris Saint-Germain. If this transfer takesplace, Di Maria wouldn't join the team until the end of nxt summer's Copa America.

According to Argentina's TyC Sports, Angel Di Maria's contract with Benfica is set to expire next month, and Inter Miami is leading the race to sign the 36-year-old player.
