Senate Republicans renewed their call for Democrats to take up the Laken Riley Act in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee chair Dick Durbin, D-Ill., who blocked consideration of the bill this week.

Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader, brought up the bill, seeking to remind voters that it is Republicans who have stood in the way of a solution to the chaos at the border.

Democrats were roundly united against former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But as the situation at the border has worsened under President Joe Biden, many Democrats have come to embrace some of the very policies they once opposed.
