The study found that Ariel from the 1989 classic "The Little Mermaid" is no longer the top Disney baby name among new parents.

When it comes to popular girls baby names in the U.S., the SSA reports Mary was the most popular girl's name for some time—a trend that persisted from 1880 but began to decline in 1970s. Its dominance could be largely attributed to its biblical origins and the strong influence of Christianity.

The probe dubbed Nevada the No. 1 state with the most Disney-inspired names. New York secured the ninth position. “Ariel” swam to the top of the list across the Empire State. It was followed by “Elsa,” the fierce female lead from “Frozen,” and “Tiana,” which hopped into third place owing to the acclaim of Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog.”

The SSA compiles lists of the most popular baby names in the country and each state yearly. Here are the top names for Texas, nation in 2023.

Liam was the only name estimated to be given to more than 20,000 babies last year, according to the Social Security Administration. It was the most popular baby name from 2017-21 and was the most popular boy name in at least 21 states, reports Sarah Chernikoff in USA TODAY.
