A Catholic bishop has criticized lawmakers over the immigration debate, saying violent incidents in El Paso "are extremely rare."

The Texas Department of Public Safety launched its first “10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List” to raise awareness about and help law enforcement find repeat offenders who are in the U.S. illegally and are wanted for allegedly committing dangerous crimes in Texas.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday launched a “Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants” list, calling it a public-security measure to track down dangerous criminals. Critics called the list a stunt intended to distract from other issues and feared it could boost anti-immigrant sentiment.
